Piano Tuning

I use a combination of aural and electronic methods to achieve the clearest and most stable tuning possible for your piano. Due to my years of experience as a music theorist and pianist, I have a deeper understanding of the nature of sound&acoustics. Every piano resonates uniquely bringing out different overtones which change your piano’s timbre. Your piano needs to be tuned at least every six months. This is due to seasonal changes that effect the elasticity and porosity of piano parts, unless you opt to install a dampp-chaser system.

Regulation

A piano’s action is comprised of every mechanism that connects the tip of your finger to the sounding piano string- and even the dampers that stop the sound. These many parts need to be regularly adjusted to keep your piano’s touch and tone in excellent condition. At every tuning appointment, I assess the piano’s action and address any immediate needs. During the longer service appointments, I make any necessary repairs and tailor the regulation to your unique piano and specific requests and observations for the improvement of touch&tone.

Voicing

The piano hammer is the crown jewel of the instrument. It needs to be perfectly shaped and fitted to the string with changes in the tension of the woolen fibers using a variety of techniques to bring out your instrument’s true voice.
